Strike Out ALS ProgramParticipants can make a pledge per home strike-out and help cheer the Minnesota Twins to victory while raising money to support the fight against ALS. Pledges to be determined by participant.

Black Woods Blizzard TourWednesday, February 04, 2009 - Saturday, February 07, 2009Benefit for The ALS Association, Minnesota Chapter. The Black Woods Blizzard Tour starts with a send-off reception in Proctor. Snowmobilers depart Thursday for Lake Vermilion, on Friday morning, they take their sleds along the scenic North Shore to Two Harbors, and on Saturday the riders return to Proctor. The Welcome Home Banquet will be held at Greysalon Ballroom in Duluth. $900 minimum pledges.

Kolar Toyota ALS Walleye TournmentFriday, May 29, 2009 - Saturday, May 30, 2009Benefit for The ALS Association, Minnesota Chapter. The event actually begins Friday night with an opening reception and an opportunity to hear from celebrities (and a brief rules meeting). The fishing competition begins Saturday morning and continues throughout the day. The weekend culminates with a silent auction and an awards dinner. $350 per boat with two anglers.

Dinner of ChampionsFriday, November 06, 2009Our 6th Annual Dinner of Champions will honor ALS All-Star Celebrity Hosts: Rick Anderson, Ron Gardenhire, Darby Hendrickson, Jim Johnson, Peter Kostis, Terry Steinbach, and Joe Vavra. ALS, often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Dinner, entertainment, an awards ceremony, and a live and silent auction. $225 per person.

Because of the paralyzing and chronic condition, persons with ALS are simply unable to do daily tasks. A volunteer could reduce stress and increase quality of life by helping with one or more of these jobs: - Cleaning - Meals - Pet Care - Visit Person with ALS Day/Time: Flexible Frequency: Twice per month For safety reasons and to equip volunteers, a screening process and training is required that includes: - Volunteer Application - Interview and Orientation (1.5 hours) - Reference Checks - Background Check Although it is not contagious, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, resulting in muscle weakness and paralysis.
