Cultural KitchenCultural Kitchen is a 10-session program in which greater Boston middle and high school students participate in cultural exploration and peer education in a safe and supportive environment using cooking and cuisine as the primary vehicle. During the first four sessions, students gain a greater understanding and appreciation for culture through hands-on educational activities, exploration of their own cultures, preparing and tasting snacks from around the world, and group discussions. In the remaining sessions, students share their diverse cultures with their peers by guiding each other through the preparation of a traditional meal. Cultural Kitchen acts as a spark, providing participants with an increased level of comfort and openness in their multi-cultural communities, and an improved ability to communicate, work in groups, resolve conflicts, and relate to others regardless of cultural differences.
YOUTH Travel Scholarship ProgramSince 1934, Hostelling International has stressed the notion that you have to see the world to understand it. HI-ENEC is pleased to offer YOUTH Travel Scholarships that sponsor summer travel for youth ages 10-18 in the Greater Boston Area. These grants enable community-based, youth-serving organizations to take groups of young people away to discover, examine, and enjoy life outside of the city. Groups can use the funds to visit our hostels located in Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, or Mid-Cape (Eastham). More information and applications are available on the HI-ENEC website at http://www.usahostels.org/TS.php.
