New Volunteer OrientationBoston Cares is a flexible volunteer agency that connects individuals with volunteer opportunities throughout Greater Boston. To become a Boston Cares member you must attend a brief, one-time New Volunteer Orientation. Every orientation covers the same material, so please sign up for the session that best fits your schedule. Each orientation session runs for approximately one-hour and is designed to accomplish several goals: * Introduce new volunteers to Boston Cares, including our mission, programs and history * Introduce new volunteers to each other * Review the website, including how to sign-up for projects Please note that Boston Cares collects a one-time registration fee from all new members. The registration fee ($20 for individual members, $30 for families, $10 for students, seniors and unemployed and no fee for active AmeriCorps volunteers) covers the costs associated with managing volunteer projects.

Earned Income Tax Credit Volunteer Information SessionsThursday, December 04, 2008 - Tuesday, December 16, 2008Join Boston Cares in educating low and moderate income wage earners about maximizing their tax returns through the Earned Income Tax Credit. Mayor Meninoâ??s Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Campaign is entering its eighth year of providing free tax preparation to low and moderate-income taxpayers and increasing EITC awareness. In the tax season of 2007, Bostonâ??s EITC Campaign served over 9,000 households to return $14.9 million in refunds to taxpayers. Volunteer opportunities are available to help clients prepare tax returns, pull credit reports, and enroll in public benefits programs such as food stamps or health insurance. Any volunteer is welcome, and bilingual volunteers are needed. Comprehensive training is provided. Boston Cares will be hosting three information sessions for you to â??Meet the Coalitionâ?? and get more information about how to be an EITC volunteer on the following dates: December 4 from 6-7:30 p.m. December 10 from 7-8:30 p.m. December 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. All the sessions will be held at 190 High Street 4th Floor, downtown.
